Steam Rooms and Hammams, Built to Stay Dry Behind the Tiles

A steam room is the most demanding room in any home or spa. It runs at 100% humidity, day after day, and any weakness in the build eventually shows. Aqua Spazio designs and installs bespoke steam rooms and hammams with the tanking, insulation and drainage done properly, so the room stays beautiful and the building around it stays dry.

What makes a steam room work

  • Full vapour control: an insulated, fully tanked enclosure, so moisture never reaches the surrounding structure.

  • Sloped ceiling: so condensation runs down the walls instead of dripping on bathers.

  • Floor falls and drainage: to clear water quickly and keep the floor safe.

  • Correctly sized steam generator: matched to room volume and wall material, with the generator sited for easy servicing.

  • Heated benches and walls: so surfaces feel warm, not cold and wet.

  • Ventilation and door: a sealed glass door and a controlled extract to clear the room after use.

Finishes and atmosphere

We build in mosaic, large-format porcelain, marble and natural stone. Options include heated loungers, aromatherapy dosing, starlight or colour-therapy lighting, and integrated rain or experience showers alongside.

Hammam design

A hammam is a warm, humid room for slow bathing, scrubbing and rest. It is often built around a heated central platform, or göbek taşı, with washing basins around the walls. We design hammams for private homes and for hotel and spa thermal suites.

Frequently asked questions

What temperature does a steam room run at?

Typically 40–48°C at close to 100% humidity. It feels hotter than the temperature suggests because the air is saturated.

Can a steam room go in an existing bathroom?

Often, yes. The room needs a full-height enclosure, a sealed door, drainage and space nearby for the generator. Photos and dimensions let us confirm quickly.

How do you prevent mould and damp?

By getting the build right: continuous tanking, insulation, a sloped ceiling, good falls to drain and an extract to dry the room after use.

Steam room or sauna?

Steam is gentler on the skin and airways for some people. Sauna gives higher, drier heat. Many clients install both as part of a wellness suite.
