Bio Saunas, Designed for Softer Heat and Gentle Humidity
A bio sauna sits between a Finnish sauna and a steam room. It runs at a milder 45–60°C with higher humidity, often with herbal or aroma infusions and soft colour lighting, so sessions feel calm and long rather than intense. Aqua Spazio designs and installs bio saunas for homes, hotels and spas across London and the UK.

What a bio sauna can include
-
Combination heater: a sauna heater with an integrated evaporator, so you can switch between classic Finnish heat and bio mode.
-
Humidity control: automatic or manual control of humidity, typically around 40–55% in bio mode.
-
Aroma and herbal infusions: dosing for essential oils or herbs in the evaporator.
-
Colour light: soft, adjustable lighting to set the mood of the session.
-
Timber and benches: stable, comfortable timbers such as thermo-aspen or alder, with bench layouts for sitting or lying down.
Why the engineering matters
Running a sauna at higher humidity puts more moisture into the cabin and the room around it. We design every bio sauna with a full vapour barrier behind the cladding, ventilation sized for humid sessions, and timber chosen to stay stable as humidity changes. The heater and evaporator are sized to the cabin volume and sited for easy cleaning and descaling.
Home and commercial bio saunas
At home, a combination heater lets one sauna serve everyone, from those who like strong heat to those who prefer it gentle. In hotels and spas, a bio sauna widens the thermal offer and works well as a quieter room in a heat circuit.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a bio sauna and a Finnish sauna?
A Finnish sauna runs hotter (80–100°C) and drier, with bursts of löyly. A bio sauna runs cooler (45–60°C) with steadier, higher humidity.
Can I convert my existing sauna to a bio sauna?
Often, yes, by fitting a combination heater with an evaporator, provided the cabin has a proper vapour barrier and ventilation. We can check your existing sauna.
What maintenance does it need?
Regular cleaning and descaling of the evaporator, depending on your water hardness, plus routine heater servicing.
